The Kansas City Chiefs are replacing beef on their defensive line.

Defensive tackle Bennie Logan is signing a one-year contract, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, according to a source involved in the move. The deal is for $8 million, with $7.68 million guaranteed, Rapoport added. The Chiefs confirmed the move Tuesday.
“We’re excited to add Bennie to our defensive front,” Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said in a statement Tuesday. “He’s a versatile player whose presence in the middle will allow us flexibility along the line. He’ll be a very good addition to our defensive line room.”
Signing the 315-pound tackle likely signals the end of Dontari Poe’s run in K.C. Poe is taking a bevy of free-agent visits this week.

The swap might be a downgrade in name-quality — and perhaps stunt Andy Reid’s offense creativity — but shouldn’t be a big drop-off on the field in the Chiefs’ scheme. It should also come at a much lower rate.
Logan is a stiff run defender and space eater in the middle. The No. 38-ranked free agent on Around The NFL’s Top 101 list, Logan will provide solid rotational play in the middle of Kansas City’s line.
In what would make one of the most obvious pairings of the free agent season, the Colts are bringing in former Chiefs first-round pick Dontari Poe jersey for a visit, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. NFL Network’s Tiffany Blackmon reported that Poe will also visit the Jaguars on Monday.
CBS first reported the Indy visit, then Poe spoke with ESPN.
“They’re trying to get something done,” Poe told the network.

New Colts general manager Chris Ballard came from Kansas City where he has an excellent picture of what Poe, the No. 11 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, is capable of. Poe had 1.5 sacks for the Chiefs this past year along with three passes defensed and a forced fumble. Not the typical nose tackle, the 6-3, 340-pound lineman can appear anywhere across a versatile 3-4 front.
This would continue a serious upgrading of Chuck Pagano’s defense, which began earlier this week with the signing of former Patriots rush end Jabaal Sheard. The Colts finished 22nd in points and 30th in yards allowed last year, leading into an offseason of upheaval.
“He was a running back that they kind of moved around a little bit,” Reid said. “His routes when he first came were kind of raw. They weren’t as disciplined as they need to be in this offense. So much of this offense is timing and being in a certain spot and knowing defenses, knowing secondaries and all that, how you’re going to make adjustments. That was all new. He is a smart kid. He picked it up so fast, and he was able to play at our level.”

Reid has discussed Hill this offseason as if the 5-foot-10 speedster would move into the starting lineup full-time and play a DeSean Jackson-type role in the offense, taking the top off defenses and allowing Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce jersey work underneath.
While the Chiefs plan to use Hill all over the formation, don’t expect him to be used much as a replacement for running back replacing Jamaal Charles.
“We didn’t use him a ton back there, (because) he’s not a real big guy,” Reid said of his 186-pound wideout. “The receiving part, we’re going to focus on that and get him more reps in that area. But he can do that other part.
“He’ll do nothing but get better as long as he keeps the right attitude and the same work ethic he had this past year. … He’s traditionally been, for us, a very hard worker, very diligent, wanted to do the right things. I wouldn’t expect that to change. I’m expecting good things from him.”
